Learning Curve Since Childhood

Let me share my learning curve with you that I started since childhood. One of my core values in my life is learning. We all have been learning since childhood.

My parents were entrepreneurs. Together, they started many small scale businesses. They wanted me to learn about business. One of the businesses that we had was a cloth shop owned by us. My father asked me to start working in cloth shop for part time, for few hours daily in week. I started working on it. It helped me to learn retail selling, accounting,  and other important lessons.
Here is one experience that I will never forget. A person came to purchase half dozen shirts and said, I don’t have enough cash right now but I will get it in two weeks. If you can sell me half dozen of shirts now, I will pay in two weeks. If you will not, your competitor shoppers are ready to sell to me. It was very attractive offer to sell half dozen shirts as it was quiet a good sale for the day. I sold it to him. Two weeks passed and that person did not appear. He said he will come by noon. Those days there were hardly any phones. I was waiting and waiting. I shared sad news this with my father. He said, he will not come. I learned my lesson to NOT to sell goods on credit without getting enough information.

Another lesson is was that continuous availability into business and availability of goods to customers is very important. Once a customer goes away , you may loose more as it may be a chain reaction. Then, you may loose reputation. So, continuity is important. These are few things that I learned with my entrepreneurship experience.

Learning is a continuous journey. Here is a good quote by mahatma Gandhi about learning: Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.
